Brian Buszta, 37, was arrested and booked on a host of charges last Monday when an attempt to scam some cash from his ex-girlfriend backfired.

Sheriff's Dep. MacNeil was dispatched to an address on South Dandelion Street in reference to an allegedly forged check.

The deputy spoke with Jason Johnson, 35, who said that Buszta's ex-girlfriend had called him and reported she had one of his business checks with his name forged on it.

When MacNeil went to talk to the girlfriend, she said that Buszta had told her Johnson needed to borrow $5,000 and would pay her back with $1,000. So the ex-girlfriend (who not identified), went to Johnson and gave him the $5,000.

After a few weeks, the ex-girlfriend reportedly told Buszta to tell Johnson she wanted her money back.

Buszta, according to the ex-girlfriend, showed up a few days later with a $6,000 check from Johnson's business. However, he told her to wait a couple of days before cashing the instrument.

Buszta's ex-girlfriend reportedly said she didn't want to wait any longer and told him she was on her way to the bank to cash the check.

At that point, Buszta allegedly stopped the girlfriend and told her that the check was stolen and forged.

Later, the ex-girlfriend reportedly found out the five grand she had loaned actually went to buy a truck Buszta bought from Johnson.

The allegedly gypped ex told deputies that even though she no longer lived with Buszta, she knew how to get in contact with him so they could talk to him.

When the officers ran a background check on Buszta, they discovered that there were multiple warrants outstanding that featured his name.

MacNeil and Sgt. Horn went to the address on Dandelion where they spoke with Buszta and confirmed the warrants.

At that point, Buszta decided to literally make a run for it and took off on foot.

When Horn's vocal commands failed to stop him, Buszta was caught by the deputy.

He was arrested for the warrants and transported to the detention center, but his problems weren't over.

Back on Dandelion Street, the deputies had returned to speak with the ex-girlfriend, where she told the officers that a backpack sitting on a counter was Buszta's.

According to the sheriff's office, "The backpack was emanating a strong odor of marijuana."

When the officers searched the bag, they found 3.9 ounces of what tested to be marijuana, multiple plastic bags, two small scales, and other unspecified drug paraphernalia.

They also found a "substantial amount" of cash in various denominations.

Buszta was booked on an impressive array of charges for both his alleged attempt to forge the checks and his alleged involvement in drug sales.

The forged check shenanigans resulted in his being booked on charges of burglary, forgery, obstructing a peace officer, possession of stolen property, failing to stop on signal of a police officer, obtaining money under false pretenses, petit larceny, and failing to register as an ex-felon.

In addition, Buszta was booked on charges of possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The grand tally for bail was $34,424.
