Pahrump's chapter of the Amateur Softball Association started league play in April and now is about half-way through the season. But with another division forming, it appears the league's members just aren't getting enough of the game.

League president Ken Causey says he plans to form a wooden bat co-ed league later this month. He's holding a meeting today at 7 p.m. at the Bob Ruud Community Center, where players and managers will gather to sign-up and work out the details.

Anyone interested in joining or forming a team is welcome to attend the meeting, Causey said.

"They can have as many as 20 people on their roster," he said. They usually have between 15 and 20 in case someone doesn't show up or whatever."

Causey said most of the teams that have already been formed are composed of members of both the men's and women's teams that currently play in the ASA league.

The president said he hopes at least five or six teams participate. The registration fee is $250 per team.

This year, the league boasts 14 total teams, eight in the men's league and six in the women's.

Causey, who has been involved in slow-pitch softball since he moved to Pahrump about two decades ago as a player, said the three divisions will play through the first week of August.

The men's league, which started its first season April 2, will play a second 16-game season this summer. The winning team from each season will play against each other in a championship game after the season ends.

Women's league teams currently play Mondays at 7 p.m. at Petrack Park. Men play on Tuesdays and Thursdays, also at 7 p.m. When the co-ed league is formed, Causey says, those games will be played on Wednesdays.

For more information on the co-ed league, call Causey at 727-6413 or attend the informational meeting tonight.
