Over 4,400 residents found themselves briefly without power last Monday when a van struck a switch pole at David Street and Basin Avenue at 2:49 p.m.

The crash resulted in a relay at the Pahrump substation, turning the lights off to downtown and surrounding areas.

In addition, an arc caused by the snapped power line cause a half-acre fire immediately after the accident, which was successfully contained and extinguished by the Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Service.

The accident resulted in one person being injured and transported to Desert View Regional Medical Center.

All but 1,138 residents had power restored to them in about 25 minutes.

The remaining Valley Electric Association (VEA) members had the lights turned back on in three hours and 15 minutes, according to the Engineering and Operations Department.
