Opinions sought on tag allocation in Elko meetingSPECIAL TO THE PVT
Sportsmen are invited to provide their input on the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners' tag allocation and application hunt process at an upcoming meeting in Elko. The Tag Allocation and Application Hunt Committee (TAAHC) will meet June 21 at 6 p.m. at the Nevada Department of Wildlife Office, 60 Youth Center Road, Elko. "Our goal is to bring sportsmen's recommendations on the big game tag allocation process to the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners," said Jack Robb, member of the commission's TAAHC. Robb encourages the public to attend and provide their input on the topics of youth tags, bonus points, return of tags, and eligibility. The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners established the TAAHC in August 2006 to review tag allocation issues based on sound biological principles, and evaluate potential changes to the application hunt and draw process. Recommendations are then presented to the full commission. Since its inception, the committee has met with nearly every County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife in Nevada gathering input. "There are often misunderstandings about how the commission comes to conclusions," said Robb. "The TAAHC was formed to gather input and make fact-based recommendations. We've done extensive data gathering on which to base future decisions. We not only consider hunter desires, but also draw conclusions from statistics and biological data," he continued. At Thursday's meeting the TAAHC will review a recommendation to change eligibility for youth tags to ensure all youth are eligible for the same numbers of years, and a recommendation on the bonus point system. To best understand the current status of the TAAHC's research efforts, Robb strongly encourages the public to review the 74-page TAAHC presentation located at the committee's webpage. This presentation can be found at http://www.ndow.org/learn/com/committee/. If individuals are unable to attend this meeting, they are encouraged to share their comments and suggestions with their local County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife. New topics for discussion at the June 21st TAAHC meeting will include eligibility for tags and return of tags. Many other related topics will be addressed during future TAAHC meetings. To learn more about these topics, attend your local County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife meetings. The TAAHC is comprised of four commission members, an at-large representative for the County Advisory Boards to Manage Wildlife, two sportsmen, and two Nevada Department of Wildlife staff. |
