Let's go to the show!OUTDOOR THEATER TO OPEN
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Residents can look forward to a summer of enjoying stars of both screen and sky now that Rod Fox, owner of Milestone Entertainment, LLC, has been approved to show outdoor movies on a 40-foot, inflatable screen. Starting June 22, and running every Friday through August (longer if the weather permits), Pahrumpians can pack up some blankets and chairs and head down to Field C at Petrack Park for a night at the movies, free of charge. The movies to be shown on Fox's 35-millimeter- or video-projector will be new enough not to have been released on DVD yet, and because the Friday-night screenings are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family, will only be rated G or PG. Although Fox has yet to finalize what the first few movies shown will be, "Happy Feet" is slated to be shown during the Freedom Festival on June 29 and 30. Other possible movies include "Duma" and "Fly Away," although those features have yet to be confirmed. There's no definite starting time, but as soon as it gets dark enough to see the blue light flicker, you can sit back and enjoy the show. In addition, vendors will be on hand to sell all the essential movie accoutrements, including popcorn (of course), soda, ice cream, and glow-in-dark-concessions. In order for the show to go on, however, community support and sponsorship is essential. Local businesses and organizations are invited to participate in one of three different levels of sponsorship. But Fox isn't ready to let the curtain fall with the coming of winter. "We're actively seeking a permanent location," said Fox, who by his own testimony has been "trying to get a movie theater here for years." "This is our first step and we're excited to be able to provide this to the community," Fox added. If you are interested in sponsoring Pahrump summer movies, contact Fox at 1-702-277-3413. |
