The Diamondbacks took advantage of good pitching and big bats to beat the Yankees 14-2 Friday night and take the Pahrump Little League Major Division baseball playoff championship.

Pitcher Chad Uyeno recorded seven strikeouts in a stellar full-game performance, during which he gave up only two runs, one hit and two walks.

Uyeno's game at the plate was also strong. He had a run batted in and scored in the first inning; a ground-rule double and a run in the second and a huge grand slam to left center in the third that brought home Rodney Torres, Cody Kovatch and Jeremy Walker.

"Our bats and our pitcher did a heck of a job," Manager Roy Uyeno said after the game. "They wanted this hard and they did it. They practiced hard and we yelled at them. Then they practiced harder and it showed."

The D-Backs got off to an early lead, racking up six runs in the first inning. Torres, Kovatch, Isaiah Lyons, Dane Thomas and Uyeno all came in that inning.

The team's momentum carried them through the game, as they scored twice in the second--Uyeno on a wild pitch -- and Walker scored Lyons when he grounded out. The D-Backs added five runs in the third inning, which saw Uyeno's grand slam and Aukai Alameda hit a run-scoring double to left field.

The D-Backs, and ultimately the game's final score was recorded in the fourth, when Torres made it from second base all the way home on an error.

The Yankees, while not as productive as their opponents, did have a couple of big plays. In the second inning, Jake Beraldo belted a home run to left field to score his team's first run. Moments later, teammate Cole Verbie came home on a wild pitch.

Asked if there was any special strategy that led his team to the title, Uyeno said, "It's all about the boys. They did it all. With a team like that, it's easy to coach."
