The Defenders didn't score many runs in their Friday night match-up against the Storm in the Pahrump Little League Minor Division championship game.

But with a strong pitching performance from both the team's starter and its reliever, they didn't have to.

Brian England allowed just one run in a little over five innings to lead his team to a 4-1 victory and the title, at Honeysuckle Park.

That one run came in the first, when the Storm's Nick Rose hit an infield single to score Jared Frye. After that, it was lights out, as England delivered a total of 11 strikeouts before leaving the game in the fifth.

When reliever Zack Ahlstedt came in, it was much of the same, as he tallied four strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

Also a powerful hitter, England was put on base each time he stepped to the plate.

At the plate, it was a couple of big bats from a pair of hard-hitting sisters that secured the team's win. Nicole Terry went 2-for-2, recording two RBI and two runs. In the fourth inning, after scoring Matthew Martin and Brian England on a double, Terry came home when her sister, Liz Terry, hit a high liner to right field for a double.

"Nicole's been an aggressive hitter for most of the season but in the past couple of games she's been hitting great," said Manager Justin Wall. "[The Storm] was worried about Brian when they should have been worried about those girls.

"They brought it, you know?" he said.

But Wall said he was also impressed by the Storm, who earned a second place nod in a highly competitive minor division field of eight teams.

"[Storm Manager Tom Walker] has done a great job," Walker said. "And they deserve every bit of what they've done this year."
