Vacation Bible school

VA van

A van is available to veterans needing transportation to the Veterans Administration Clinic in Pahrump.

School volunteer office hours

Yaa-Hoos meeting

The Yaa-Hoos, a group for ladies of all ages who want a little time to themselves, will meet to play Clue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Pahrump Community Library, 701 East St.

AYSO registration

AYSO 2007 registration will be held from 6-8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 30.

Players born between Aug. 1, 1988, and July 31, 2003, are eligible to sign up. A copy of the child's birth certificate must be brought to registration. You can also pre-register your child at www.eayso.org.

Senior seminar

City Mortgage Services will hold a seminar for seniors 62 and older about reverse mortgage programs at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pahrump Community Library, 701 East St. Freddy Flores, branch manager, is the scheduled speaker.

Amateur Radio tests

Amateur Radio tests will be given at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Pahrump Senior Center, 1370 W. Basin Ave.

Mt. Charleston registration

Mt. Charleston Elementary School's kindergarten and all fall registration will be ongoing through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The school office will open back up again for all registration starting Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Manse Elementary registration

Manse Elementary School's kindergarten registration will start Friday and continue until June 25. Fall registration for kindergarten through the fifth grade will begin Aug. 6.

Youth basketball

The Nye County Sports Association (NCSA) will hold eight weeks of basketball for youth ages 7-18 through its first Youth Summer Basketball League at $20 per child ($25 per child if registered after Friday).

Skills assessments will be conducted June 21 and 22 at Pahrump Valley High School. Practices will begin June 25. Games are scheduled from June 28 through Aug. 18.

Gold seekers meeting

The Gold Prospecting club in Pahrump will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

The scheduled speaker is Bill Durbin, of the BLM. Mining claims and club equipment will be discussed. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Baptist church concert

The First Southern Baptist Church's music department invites the community to its fifth annual "Somebody Sing Me A Gospel Song" concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, 741 Fehrs Way (corner of Highway 160 and Fehrs).

This free concert will feature old-fashioned gospel music. An ice cream social will follow the concert at 8 p.m.

Amargosa art show

The Amargosa Valley Artist Guild will hold its fifth annual Art & Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Amargosa Valley Community Center, 812 E. Amargosa Farm Road.

Food will be available as artists and artisans from Amargosa Valley, Pahrump, Las Vegas and elsewhere show their creations.

Summer games

The upcoming Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Summer Games Program will begin Monday, and run Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to noon in the Rosemary Clarke Middle School cafeteria.

The Nye County Sheriff's Office will hire qualified teachers, staff and student employees throughout the summer who would like participate in this "G.R.E.A.T." opportunity.

New animal organization

SNAPS has been created in Pahrump as a solution to stop the killing of unwanted animals and offers low or no cost vaccinations, spaying and neutering of cats and dogs and humane traps.

SNAPS' next vaccination clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 23 at the Comstock Park pool house.

Salvation Army Bible School

The Salvation Army's Vacation Bible School, for all children ages 5 through 14, will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. today through Friday at the Salvation Army Church grounds (The Manor), 721 S. Buol Road.

Registration is $5 per child. Registration forms are available at the Social Services Office, located at the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Dahlia Street.

Equestrian event

The Pahrump Valley Rough Riders' Gymkhana event will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at McCullough arena.

Teen night

The Nye Communities Coalition, in partnership with St. Martin's in the Desert Episcopal Church, will host a teen night from 6-9 p.m. June 22 at the Pahrump Town Pool.

Middle- through high school-age students are invited to come out for an evening of free swimming, food and fun. This is an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free event.

Council of the Blind meeting

The Pahrump Valley Chapter of the Nevada Council of the Blind will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Pahrump Senior Center.

Rick Hulhmey, political advocate for the Nevada Council of the Blind, is the scheduled guest speaker.
