No flags for Native Americans?

On Memorial Day, my family and I went to Chief Tecopa Cemetery to decorate graves. I noticed American flags were placed throughout the cemetery except for where Native American Indians are buried.

Many of the deceased Indians there served in World War II, the Korean War and in Vietnam. Many of the grave markers indicate that they had served in foreign wars. Veterans are veterans regardless of their color or creed.

Why were there not any flags placed on the graves of the Native Americans?

Thanks to all

We would like to thank the citizens of Pahrump for their support of Special Olympics.

We would really like to thank Pahrump Valley High School and Rosemary Clarke Middle School for the use of their track and field for our practices; we really appreciate it. We would also like to thank MacDonald's for providing the food for our last practice.

We went to state tournament in Las Vegas last week and won 12 gold, six silver and two bronze medals. In 26 events, we took 20 medals.

Two of our athletes won gold in all three events they entered: Bobby Grebs and Raymond Wertman.

We have had a great year and plan to continue on.

Thank you all again.

Thanks for the bus ride

Hi, my name is Joe and I am 63 years young. On June 1, I had the distinct pleasure of going on a field trip with approximately 120 students from Mt. Charleston Elementary School. Our destination was the Pahrump Nugget bowling alleys. It has taken me 63 years to finally take my first school bus ride. What a wonderful experience it was.

I would like to take the time to give thanks to Lori and her fine staff at the Pahrump Nugget bowling alley for making this outing amazingly memorable for all the children. How great it was to see all the parents who volunteered their time for this fun field trip.

And last, but not least, I would like to recognize the teachers who work such long hours, because they care and caring always takes a bit longer. Thank you to the teachers and staff at Mt. Charleston Elementary School for making my first school bus ride so much fun.

Dumping on the street

What would possess anyone with the mental acuity of anything more than a slug to just dump a refrigerator and five car batteries on the street?

This cretin probably had to drive quite a few miles to do this, last (Sunday) night. Why not just drive to the dump and unload this junk?

Apart from being an eyesore, the acid from the batteries was oozing, as I found to my cost, when my husband and I picked up this garbage and took it to... That's right. The dump.

And, if you really don't know where the dump is, find out or save yourself the effort and just toss your castoffs on the street in front of your house.

Golf fundraiser a success

The tournament held April 28, 2007, hosted by the Mountain Falls Men's and Ladies Association was a huge success. The Swing for a Cure Golf Tournament raised $4,000 for the American Cancer Association in memory of Linda "Dani" Prescott.

We would like to thank Saitta Trudeau, Last Chance Saloon & Steak House, Built Well Homes, Lakeview Executive Golf Course, Wulfenstein Construction Co., Pahrump Nugget Hotel & Casino, Club Spring Mountain Motor Sports Country Club, Joe Early and Donna and Carl Torelli, Short Branch Saloon, High Desert Water Systems, Callaway Golf, Mountain Falls Bar & Grill, Mountain Falls Golf Club, Nevada Beverage, Terrible's Town Casino, Las Vegas Golf & Tennis, Valley Signs, KNYE 95.1 and the Pahrump Valley Times for their generous donations.

We would also like to thank all the golfers who participated in this tournament to make it a success.
