Mesquite trees fail to hide 3 warrants and a meth pipe

Last Sunday, Darvis Johnson, 35, learned that you can run, but you can't hide when he was arrested for numerous warrants and drug possession.

It all began when sheriff's Dep. Olson initiated a traffic stop on a White Ford Ranger for a broken brake light. The driver of the vehicle, when asked where he was coming from, informed the deputy that he had just dropped off Johnson at another person's house, even telling the officer the cross streets.

When Olson ran a check on Johnson, he was told that Johnson had three Nye County warrants out on him. He proceeded to the house Johnson was at in the company of deputies Healing and Jonas.

Dep. Jonas went around to the back of the house and the other two deputies knocked on the front door.

The white adult male who answered told the officers that Johnson had just ran out, literally, about 30 seconds before the deputies pulled up.

So they went to the back of the house where the sheriff's office reported, "We all observed an extreme amount of noise coming from the mesquite trees at the back of the residence (as if someone were trying to conceal themselves from deputies)."

It didn't take long for the deputies to find Johnson and arrest him.

While patting him down, however, .7 grams of methamphetamine and glass pipe were found in Johnson's front left pants pocket.

Johnson was booked on two warrants for a sex offender failure to register, a warrant for battery domestic violence, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bail was set at $16,632.
