Frank Eberflus brought his business, Land Art to Pahrump in 2002.

After 10 years in Henderson and Las Vegas, he decided it was time to leave all the hustle and bustle. He had checked out Pahrump a few times over those years, but decided to wait until the right time.

Land Art is located at 3860 Jennifer Street off Quarterhorse Lane, but most of it is run using a cell phone.

Eberflus is a licensed contractor in both Nye and Clark Counties and uses the strictest codes when doing the work. "If you use the hardest codes, you'll always know you're in compliance. In order to be reputable landscaping business, licenses are essential," said Eberflus.

For example, Clark County has more and stricter codes that Nye County either hasn't implemented or are simpler in requirements.

He doesn't just come out, have rock dumped and move it into place. He designs it, talks to the customer and puts it all together depending on available funds.

Prices fluctuate based on the size of the lot and how much the owner wants to pay. It can be as simple as some nice rock and few plants to a much more elaborate setting with fountains and the like.

Eberflus recommends that customers select plants based on the ability to survive our low and high temperatures. "Customers should be very careful about selecting trees," he said. "Some will have multiple long roots such as the Cottonwood which could interfere with water lines, and destroy concrete patios, etc,"

Irrigation is the number one item to think about; If proper watering methods are not in place, plants, lawns and trees will die. "To avoid using a lot of water, a customer may want to have smaller areas of grass and more plants. When establishing new products, use a higher setting on your system, then turn it lower in the fall," he said.

Eberflus' best recommendation is to use a licensed contractor to prevent problems. Land Art guarantees its work based on the time of year. Plants have a 30-day guarantee except in winter which is longer, and one year on irrigation.

To set up an appointment with Land Art, call 727-8512. The landscaping service is also available in Amargosa, Death Valley and Beatty.
