BASKETBALL AT J.G. JOHNSON Skills contest attracts 18 youngsters

Eighteen youngsters ages 7 to 12 participated in the first Youth Basketball Skills contest at J.G. Johnson Elementary School Saturday. The Boys and Girls Club of Pahrump has a major goal to work with the various organizations, which include the schools and the town, to promote sportsmanship, skills development and abilities, and encourage confidence and respect. The basketball skills contest included free throw shooting, a one-minute shoot around, an agility drill, 3-point shooting, and a creative lay-up contest. The results: Free throws (order of finish) -- 7-9 boys, Tyler Baumgarden, Kyle Thaxton, Lamar Lewwis, Patrick Johnson, Parker Hart. 7-9 girls, Kelsey Lindgren and Lena Lewis. 10-12 boys, Chris Lewis, Cole Alexander, Matt Campenella. 10-12 girls, Payton Hart, Tristen Bannerman, Stephanie Johnson, Sarah Brickles. Creative Lay-up -- 10-12 boys, Cole Alexander, Chris Lewis. 10-12 girls, Tristen Bannerman, Payton Hart, Sarah Brickles, The sportsmanship award went to Jacob Bannerman in the 7-9 age division. Most events points were earned by Chris Lewis in the boys 10-12 division; Payton Hart of the 10-12 girls division; Lamar Lewis of the 7-90 boys division, and Payton Hart of the 7-9 girls division. "The Boys and Girls Club of Pahrump appreciates all of the volunteer help provided by Courtney Lewis, the director of the Nye County Sports Association, along with the staff of the club," said Brian Nelson, the unit director. "The club will continue to promote athletic skills contests for youth in other sports, including football, baseball and softball, and soccer." |
