Alleged T-bird thieves lost in desert, then found
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Christopher King, 23, of Pahrump, and Jesse Gawlik, 28, of Pahrump, found themselves celebrating Memorial Day by getting arrested after they allegedly stole a vehicle. Sheriff's Dep. Harry Williams was driving on Blagg Road past Eton Street when he saw a teal Ford Thunderbird with no visible registration parked on the side of the road. The car had three people in it. When the deputy turned his patrol car around, the rear passenger, whose name was withheld by the NCSO, jumped out of the car and began running eastbound through the desert. When the patrol car approached the vehicle, the other two passengers took off on foot as well, running westbound through a mesquite grove. The backseat passenger who took off first was later found by deputies and advised them that the car had been stolen and identified the other two individuals. Two hours laters, Gawlik and King were found at a residence on West Mesquite Avenue, reportedly still wearing the same clothes Williams saw them in earlier. The pair was arrested and booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy to commit a crime, and attempting to elude police. Their bail was set at $15,632 each. |
