Tire tracks trap vandal
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
TONOPAH -- Nicholas Stone, 19, recently learned that not only television C.S.I. officers perform good old-fashioned investigative work when he was arrested for allegedly damaging school property. When Sheriff's Dep. Ed Cobb arrived at Silver Rim Elementary School just before 6 a.m. May 23, he found the school's lawn had a circle torn in it by a vehicle. Examining the scene, Cobb found a tire track and discerned that the damage had been done by a "dually" pick-up truck. The deputy then set out to find the offending vehicle and its driver. It didn't take long, and soon Dep. Cobb saw a red dually parked in the driveway of a residence near the school. The officer went to the truck and found apparently incriminating green grass and moist dirt in the fender wells. Furthermore, the tires on the truck matched the tire track at the scene. The deputy then spoke with Stone, who admitted to driving the vehicle. When Cobb placed the young man under arrest, however, Stone reportedly insisted he did not do it. Later that afternoon, however, the NCSO reported that Stone admitted to driving on the grass and tearing it up. Stone was booked on the charge of damage to school property and his bail was set at $2,000. |
