Goins golfers compete at Exec

Junior golfers -- 39 who had prepared for the Gene Goins Memorial for almost a year -- squared off at Lakeview Executive Monday and Tuesday, seeking success in their quests for championships.

The Pahrump Valley Junior Golf Association-sanctioned tournament, the traditional end to the spring-summer season, concluded Tuesday on the par 59, 3,600-yard course.

After first-round play, the scores were:

Boys 7-8 -- Nick Harris 48, Dakota Jersic 50, Sean Miskiewicz 48, Craig Moore 49, Christian Quitevis 53, Lucas Titejen 43, Chance Walker 42, and Nick Thornburg 55.

Girls 7-8 -- Rylee Hamlin 58, Courtney Jersic 59, Krista Toomer 56, and Carli Thornburg 58.

Girls 9-11 -- Catherine Miskiewicz 49, Tori Peers 40, Emily Urpsrung 59, and Amber Thornburg 50.

Boys 12-14 -- Shawn Dixon 49, David Markwell 52 (9 holes completed); Zack Harris 46-54--100, Elliott Owens 34-35--69, Daniel Shimakawa 33-37--70, Josh Spradlin 38-41--79, Ryan Hammar 39-36--75.

Girls 12-14 -- Taylor Ball 49-46--95, Shyanne Dixon 51-49--100, Ashley Myers 58-58--116, Emilynne Biggs 47.

Boys 9-11 -- Zach Ahlstedt 47, John Miller 56, Derek Moore 40, Kyle Steib 44, Samuel Tietjen 45, Nolan Toomer 52, Connor Ursprung 56, Joshua Willing 53.

Girls 15-18 -- Jasper Biggs 39-39--78.

Boys 15-18 -- William Peers 36-41--77, Isaac Shook 41-39--80, Daniel Spradlin 47-49--96.

A total of 99 players were eligible to compete in the tournament, but vacations and other conflicts in schedules reduced the field to 39 for one of the premiere junior golf events in Southern Nevada.
