TROJANS BASEBALL Legion season ends; playoffs start TuesdayPVT Pahrump Valley's American Legion baseball season ended Tuesday, with the Trojans playing in Las Vegas against Bishop Gorman and Durango. The Trojans went into those games with a 10-7 Southern Nevada Silver Division record. Bishop Gorman was 6-13, while Durango was 1-17. Las Vegas Rancho led the division in games played through July 21 with a 16-2 record. Sierra Vista was at 16-4, Faith Lutheran 14-4, Calvary Chapel 14-4, Liberty 14-4, and Shadow Ridge 15-5. Foothill was 13-7, Legacy 10-5, and Eldorado 10-9. Green Valley was 8-10, Centennial 8-10, Palo Verde 9-11, Arbor View 8-11, Del Sol 8-11, Cheyenne 7-13, Western 5-12, Chaparral 5-13, Vo-Tech 4-13, and Desert Pines 1-17. The Silver Division playoffs begin Tuesday and run through Aug. 3 at Durango High School. The top four teams qualify for that tournament. The Silver Division Mid-States tournament is Aug. 15-19 at Beulah, N.D. Sierra Vista, 18-2; Spring Valley, 15-7; Coronado, 15-7, and Bishop Gorman, 15-8, are the top four teams in the Gold Division, in games played through July 21. The Nevada State tournament will be played Aug. 4-11 at Wilson Stadium, on the UNLV campus. The winner advances to the Western regionals, to be played Aug. 16-20 at Kearns, Utah. The American Legion World Series is Aug. 24-28 at Bartlesville, Okla. Coronado, 17-1; Silverado, 17-4; Sierra Vista, 14-4; Rancho, 13-5; Palo Verde, 14-6, and Basic, 14-7, pace the Junior Division. The Junior champion goes to the Mid-States regionals in Jennings, La., Aug. 2-6. |
