PVHS Registration Registration for enrollment for Pahrump Valley High School students will begin Aug. 1. The counseling office will be open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. For those in need of a later registration time, the office will also be open until 8 p.m. on Aug. 2, and Aug. 9. For questions regarding registration, please call the counseling office at 727-2280. Babies in need Stitches From the Heart needs volunteers to knit, crochet or quilt blankets, little sweaters and hats for babies in need. These items are donated to hospitals all over the country. Artistic Centre dance and voice recital The Artistic Centre will present its ninth annual dance and voice recital at the Pahrump Valley High School auditorium at 7 p.m. July 27 and at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. July 28. This year's theme is Broadway, which includes vocal numbers and dance routines in combo, pointe, jazz, tap, and hip hop. Tickets are $6 each. Call Mary Albin at 751-0880. Rosemary Clarke enrollment Rosemary Clarke Middle School will re-open July 31. Enrollment will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 31 for the sixth grade; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 1 for the seventh grade; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 2 for the eighth grade. Open enrollment for all grades will be Aug. 6-10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Nye County School District office is open all summer and may be able answer questions. Call 727-7743. Hunter safety course The Nevada Department of Wildlife and The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation are sponsoring a hunter safety course in Pahrump. It is mandatory for first time hunters. Hunting season is just around the corner. The in-depth hunter course will be held from 6-8 p.m. July 30-31, Aug. 1-4. You must attend all listed classes. Workbooks are available for $5 at: WR Sporting, LLC, 111 S. Frontage Road. All workbooks must be completed before class begins. Call Walt Rubio, 537-0447. Domestic violence seminar series Domestic violence is a national epidemic. The social workers of Nathan Adelson Hospice along with Lisa Lynn Chapman, Executive Director of No To Abuse, will discuss this subject and related subjects from noon to 1 p.m. July 31 on Channel 30.
Motivational speaker Keith Froehling will be at the Pahrump Senior Center at 11 a.m. Thursday to share his life's experiences with the seniors. Come for the guest speaker and stay for lunch afterward, with soup and salad bar. The price is only $2 for those ages 60 and older. It will be $5 for ages 59 and under. The senior center is located at 1370 West Basin Ave. Call 727-5008. Special Olympics bowling Special Olympics bowling will start at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Pahrump Nugget. Senior Karaoke Idol Pahrump's Senior Karaoke Idol will be held at Who's Dunes, Hwy. 372 and Linda St. Amateurs 50 years or older, here's a chance to win some cash. Entry fee is $10 for each contestant. First place wins $150; second place wins $100; third place wins $75. Contestants shall be judged on voice, stage presence and song presentation. Songs are limited to 4.5 minutes. Contestants must act in a professional manner. Seating is limited to 45 people. Auditions are from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Contestants need to sign up before July 29 for Aug. 5 audition; Aug. 5 for Aug. 12 audition; Aug. 12 for Aug. 19 audition. Finals will be held Aug. 26. She will be attending the Nevada State Cinderella Scholarship program from July 29 to Aug. 3 in Las Vegas. A fundraiser in Las Vegas did not yield enough funds for her to go and she is still short approximately $700. The final deadline is July 25. Receipts will be provided. Any amount will help. Well owners meeting The Nye County Well Owners Association monthly meeting place has been changed from the VFW to the Pahrump Library meeting room. The time is changed from 11:30 to 9 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month. These are permanent changes. Members get a free annual water testing, inspection and a well check for depth. Summer reading program A summer reading program, with volunteer tutors available to help students going into kindergarten through middle school, will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. July 31, Aug. 2, Aug. 7 and Aug. 9 at the Salvation Army, 721 S. Car wash fundraiser A fundraiser will be held for the Relay for Life July 28 and 29 at both locations of Super Wash, on Calvada and Pahrump Valley Boulevards or on Dahlia behind Albertson's. One dollar from each automatic wash will be donated to the Relay for Life team. Nye County Democrat Central meeting The Nye County Democrat Central meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 30 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Democrats are urged to attend (bring a friend). Hospice fundraiser Nathan Adelson Hospice (NAH) will host its 13th annual Serenades of Life, a physician's benefit concert, at 7 p.m. July 28 at the Flamingo Library Theatre, 1401 E. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas. Many local doctors, members of the medical community and friends will lend their musical talents to help raise funds for the hospice. Family to Family July calendar The July class schedule for Family to Family Connection, located at 160 S. Emery, is as follows: July 27 -- Nevada early intervention services family day at Petrack Park, 11 a.m. Nutrition class is at 11 a.m. every Tuesday. Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday. Playgroup is at 1 p.m. every Thursday. For carseat safety checks or assistance with Nevada Check-up applications, please call for an appointment. The Red Cross is offering a course to provide volunteers with the skills and tools needed to respond to single family emergencies and to represent the Red Cross at the scene of a disaster. A volunteer training course will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Aug. 1 in Pahrump. The training location will be provided when registration is received. To enroll to be a Red Cross volunteer, register for the class at www.redcrosslasvegas.org. and click on disaster training. The enrollment form is at the bottom of the page. This class is free. Call the American Red Cross at 702-791-3311 for more information. Miss Pahrump Pageant The Miss Pahrump Pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Pahrump Nugget. Tickets are on sale now. VIP seating is $15 and general seating is $10. Tickets may be purchased from any Miss Pahrump contestant, at Decadence Day Spa in the Pahrump Station Shopping Center on Postal Road between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or call Pamela at 751-2717 and leave a message.
