Little League Seniors take championship15-2 GAME ENDS RUN FOR RED ROCK CREWSpecial to the PVT
The Pahrump Valley Little League Senior Division team has managed to defeat the odds. But in Tuesday's championship District 4 game, the 15-2 victory over Red Rock was anything but the blow-out indicated by the lopsided score. Cody Nielsen struck out six batters, walked four and another three were hit by pitches. For Red Rock, the pitchers had a tough time controlling the zone and managed to clout a total of nine batters. Nielsen led the Pahrump gang with three RBIs and was followed by Tyler Lepley with two and Mike Gonzalez, Ronnie Torres and Ethan Wald, each of whom brought in a runner to give Pahrump the edge and finish the district season as top dogs. The last title held was in 2002 under Rich Lauver's reign. With outstanding pitching, hard hitting and teamwork in all three final games, the boys are now ready for their next challenge: They head for the state tournament this weekend at Silverado Ranch Park on Gillispie Road in Las Vegas, where they will face Central Little League. This will be a best-of-three tournament, and if Pahrump wins, the home team will head north to Salem, Ore., to defend the state title for the regionals. Game times are Friday, July 20, at 7 p.m.; Saturday the 21st at 7 p.m.; and, if needed, July 22 at 7 p.m. All games will be on Silverado's North Field. |
