Barker out as coach of PV spikers

Make that four varsity coaches being sought at Pahrump Valley High School.

After it was announced that the Trojans were seeking varsity coaches for track and field, fast-pitch softball and girls' soccer, it was revealed that Richard Barker had resigned as coach of the Lady Trojans' volleyball squad.

Barker replaced Jill Harris last summer and got the PV girls into the Southern Nevada Class 3-A regional tournament before their season ended. Harris had averaged 22 wins in five seasons before resigning a year ago.

Already gone?

Jason Odegard, who helped lead the PV girls to a state championship in track; he is going to be a principal of a high school in North Dakota.

Steve Coleman, whose girls' soccer teams were perennial threats for Southern league and regional honors. He will devote more time to his work in the private sector.

Rich Lauver, who guided PV's fast-pitch softball team to state championships in 2003, 2004, and 2005 and a 23-23 record in 2007, after the Trojans started 0-9 and 3-18.
