Teen needs help

Katlyn Nye County Cinderella Teen, needs your help. She recently attended Nevada State Cinderella Scholarship program on July 29 to Aug. 3 of 2007 in Las Vegas. Our big fund raiser in Las Vegas did not yield enough funds for her to go. She is still short approximately $700.00.

We need to have the funds by July 20, but the final deadline is July 25 of this year.

Hunter safety course

The Nevada Department of wildlife and The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation are sponsoring a hunter safety course in Pahrump. It is mandatory for first time hunters.

Hunting season is just around the corner. This is a good time to join us for some fun, during our in-depth hunter course, the first week of August. on the following nights for 2 hours and concluding on Saturday for 4 hours. You must attend all listed classes.

Dates and time: July 30 and 31 August 1-4 from 6-8 p.m.

Work Books are available for $5 at WR Sporting, LLC, 111 So. Frontage road. All work books must be completed before class begins. Call Walt Rubio, 537-0447.

Well owners meeting

The Nye County Well Owners Association monthly meeting place has been changed from the VFW to the Pahrump Library meeting room.

The time is changed from 11:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month. These are permanent changes.

Members get a free annual water testing, inspection and a well check for depth.

The membership fee is $20 per year and could save you thousands of dollars.

PVCAT is back

The Pahrump Valley Community Action Team is back. Past board of directors recently reunited and, working together, reinstituted the organization.

A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 18, at Great Basin Community college, room 107, to seek your input and support to develop PVCAT's future agenda. It is your input and support that will determine the future of PVCAT's direction.

A social will begin at 5:30 p.m., with sandwiches and refreshments. The meeting will run from 6-8 p.m.

Motivational speaker

Keith Froehling will be at the Pahrump Senior Center on Thursday, July 19, at 11 a.m. He will be sharing his life's experiences with the seniors.

Come join our guest speaker, and have a great time. Stay for lunch afterward, with soup and salad bar. The price is only $2.00 for those ages 60, and older. It will be $5.00 for ages 59 and under.

Democratic Club meeting

The Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Miss Pahrump Pageant

The Miss Pahrump Pageant will be held Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pahrump Nugget.

Tickets are on sale now. VIP seating, $15 and general seating, $10. Tickets may be purchased from any Miss Pahrump contestant at Decadence Day spa in the Pahrump Station Shopping Center on Postal Road between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call Pamela, 751-2717, leave message.

Centre dance

The Artistic Centre will present its 9th annual dance and voice recital at the Pahrump Valley High School auditorium on Friday, July, 27 at 7p.m. and on Saturday, July 28 at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

This year's theme is Broadway, which includes vocal numbers and dance routines in combo, pointe, jazz, tap, and hip hop.

Nobles' Ladies luncheon

The Nobles' Ladies will meet for lunch at Marco's Pizzeria and Pasta on Wed. July 25 at 11:30 a.m.

Rosemary Clarke enrollment

Rosemary Clarke Middle School will re-open July 31. Enrollment dates will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 31 for the sixth grade; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 1 for the seventh grade; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 2 for the eighth grade. Open enrollment for all grades will be Aug. 6-10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Shots for tots

Time for Shots for Tots, sponsored by the Pahrump Valley Rotary Club and the Nevada State Health Division. Saturday August 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pahrump Community Health Office, 250 N. Summer reading program

A summer reading program, with volunteer tutors available to help students going into kindergarten through middle school, will be held at the salvation army, 721 S. Buol Road, July 31, Aug. 2, Aug. 7, and Aug. 9.

Sessions are from 1 p.m. -2:30 p.m. on the above dates. Space is limited, so please call Pat, 751-9225, no later than July 23.

Domestic violence seminar series

Domestic violence is a national epidemic as well as a national disgrace. This tragic circle will not be broken until we educate children, grandchildren, and ourselves.

This horror in the home will continue until we get to the point where we say enough, until our court systems support the police and punish abusers as the criminals that they are instead of putting families in danger by releasing them over and over again.

On Tuesday, July 31, this issue will be addressed, solutions offered and scenarios painted that will surprise and appall many of you. The social workers of Nathan Adelson along with Lisa Lynn Chapman, executive director of No to Abuse will discuss this subject and other related subjects on Channel 30, noon until 1 p.m. You won't want to miss this interesting discussion.

Senior Nevada Pageant

The Ms. Senior Nevada Pageant will be held at the Sun Coast Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas on August 28.

CCNGS monthly meeting

The monthly meeting of the Clark County Nevada Genealogical Society will be held July 21 at the Paseo Verde library located at 280 So. Green Valley Pkwy. in Henderson. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and ends at noon.

Meetings are open to the public interested in doing Family History Research.

Babies in need

Stitches from the Heart needs volunteers to knit, crochet or quilt blankets, little sweaters and hats for babies in need.

These items are donated to hospitals all over the country. Donated yarn is desperately needed for seniors and children's knitting programs.

Quilts 4 Cancer

Quilts 4 Cancer, a 501C3 charity, needs financial sponsors. Funding is needed to continue giving cancer comfort quilts to those in the area (not Las Vegas).

In Nye and Esmeralda County, so many residents are being treated for cancer. Some of the current wish list includes material for tops, rotary blades, backing, etc.

Free vision screenings

During the month of August, Dr. George D. Leaks is offering free vision screenings for children ages five through 18.

These screenings will not result in a spectacle prescription. However, they will determine if a comprehensive eye exam should be scheduled.

Appointments are available and will be seen first, but walk-ins will be accepted.

Call 727-8300 to schedule an appointment for your child. The clinic is located at 2120 E. Calvada Blvd.

Bible school registration

The Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church is now accepting registration for vacation Bible school, which will be held July 23-27 for children age 3 through the sixth grade.

Call the church from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at 727-6767 to register or drop by the church during these hours.
