FISHING
LAKE MEAD It's hot! And that means most anglers are coming off the water early in the morning. But those who are willing to endure the heat have been finding good action for striped bass. Most anglers are finding success with hardware, some on top of the water and some a little deeper. Anglers using cut bait have also been catching fish, but not as many as those using lures. The area from Gypsum Wash to Sand Island seems to be the place. Crawdad and Boxcar Coves can also be productive. In the Overton Arm anglers generally do well near Stewart's Point. LAKE MOHAVE PowerBait, spinners and spoons have been the ticket for rainbow trout at Willow Beach where anglers have been reeling in rainbows up to 14 inches long. Action has been good for anglers fishing from the shoreline as well as from boats. Striped bass fishermen have also been catching fish in the same area, some on hardware others on swim baits. In the Cottonwood Cove area Berkley Powerworms have been catching largemouth bass. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA As the summer goes on, weeds will make things difficult for shore anglers. Use a plastic bubble filled with water to cast your bait beyond the weed beds. PowerBait and night crawlers are generally productive. For bass work the edges of the reservoirs where the tules begin. Don't forget to bring a good brand of mosquito repellent. EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR Anglers are still finding good fishing in the cool morning hours and late in the day. Fish activity slows considerably during the heat of the day. If you prefer hardware, try Super Dupers, Panther Martins and Mepp's Spinners. Bait fishermen generally do well with PowerBait. Rainbow with glitter can be a good choice. ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR High daytime temperatures have made rainbow trout sluggish and the fishing slow. Largemouth bass, on the other hand, have provided good fishing for anglers fishing the weed beds and the deep water along the dam. |
