Wish Lugar well in pursuing farm reform
WASHINGTON -- Time was, Riley Webster Lugar, a Hoosier farmer, vociferously disapproved of the New Deal policy of killing baby pigs to control supply in the hope of raising prices. When his son Marvin ran the family farm, if a cashier giving him change included a Franklin Roosevelt dime, he would slap the offending coin on the counter and denounce the New Deal policy of supporting commodity prices by controlling supply -- by limiting the freedom to plant.

Confessions of another moralizer
It appears there's another main difference between some of our leading liberals -- Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton -- and some of our leading conservatives -- Jimmy Swaggart, Dick Morris, Ted Haggard and now U.S. Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana.

When relatives on Dad's side get together, Aunt Phyl used to bring her famous cheesecake. But some time ago, she reached the age at which one is no longer obligated to bring a covered dish. I miss the cheesecake.
