Nye County Comptroller Pam Webster will be recommended for the assistant county manager position by County Manager Ron Williams when county commissioners meet Tuesday at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Webster was hired as comptroller last July.

Her resumé lists 30 years of financial experience, including a position as manager of accounting finance and contracts for Canon Development Americas of Irvine, Calif.; manager of business planning for Toshiba America Informations Systems, also in Irvine, and manager of budget and rates for Hughes Training Inc. in West Covina, Calif.

Williams, in recommending Webster, wrote: "In working with Ms. Webster for the past year I have observed that she brings to the table the education, experience and necessary management and decision making skills needed for this position and will be invaluable in ensuring continuity of government during the upcoming transitional period."

Commissioners had previously talked about hiring an assistant county manager that could be trained to follow in Williams' footsteps when he retires, possibly in 2008. However, in some discussions commissioners were uncertain the assistant county manager would necessarily replace Williams.

Webster wasn't part of a list of 40 candidates released under an Open Records Act request filed by the Pahrump Valley Times when job applications closed Jan. 26. That pool of applicants included Pahrump Town Manager Dave Richards and former Commissioner Cameron McRae.

The county was offering an annual salary of $86,444 to $112,444 for the assistant county manager position.

Nye County commissioners will have filled three major positions this year if they ratify the county manager's choice Tuesday. They approved of Williams' choice of Jack Lohman as Nye County planning director Feb. 20 and Lewis Darrell Lacy Jr., as director of the Nye County Nuclear Waste Repository Office May 21.
