Community team reunites to chart improvements
By MARY BALDASANO
The Pahrump Valley Community Action Team members are getting together again to develop projects for improving the community. For $20 a year, members voice their ideas on those aspects of Pahrump that may need help. Some of these have included the master plan, sign ordnance, Spring Mountain Trail, beautification of the business area of downtown, development of a possible vocational-technical Center and more. The general public makes up the membership and everyone is invited to join. Members will initially review past accomplishments, submit ideas for new ones and complete a needs assessment of those ideas. They will then identify the projects to be worked on and evaluate how to accomplish them. Once the projects are identified, the members divide into seven teams, each of which will choose one aspect of the project and work with it; teams collaborate with each other along the way to stay informed about progress. "There are currently 73 members of PVCAT and it is hoped that more will join, Patricia Cox, PVCAT president, said. "No long-term commitment is needed. It would be helpful even if you give one or two hours a month." A newsletter will be developed and sent to members, as well as be posted around the area and in government offices. The initial meeting will be held Wednesday, July 18, at Great Basin Community College from 6 to 8 p.m. with a social beforehand from 5:30 to 6 p.m. If you are interested in working for the community and would like to be part of PVCAT, call Paula Gliden at 775-209-4412, email Claudette Crooks at "sissybu5@aol.com" or write to PVCAT, PO Box 3324, Pahrump NV 89041. |
