The local ARES/RACES club of Southern Nye County, responsible for providing emergency communication via ham radio, did more than just contact other radio clubs the world over when it held its annual Field Day exercise last month. It also held a raffle to raise money and gave away a variety of prizes, from a Goofy telephone to homemade crafts to gift cards. The club would like to acknowledge the following individuals as prize winners in the annual raffle held June 24. Mike Kocvara, Carol Eaton, Robert Smith, Keith Layton, J.V. Nicholas, Martha Kuntz, Edith Hinze, Steve Lovern, Chuck Hughes, Lynn Boreman, Julie Bieganski and Scott Perkins. In addition, the club recognized those who helped organize the raffle: Steve and Carol Bird, Anne Brook, Jerry Fuge, Ron Daviau, Richard Gamble and Dick Grady. Also, the club thanked the following organizations and individuals for their donations of prizes for this years event: Anne Brook, Kenny Bales, Steve and Carol Bird, Claire Toomey, Wal-Mart, Ace Hardware, Albertson's, Carbucks and the Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Casino. Special thanks to Smith's Grocery and Wal-Mart for hosting the group at their storefronts where the raffle tickets were sold.
