D-is for Dog cleans them up
By MARY BALDASANO
Charity Perry grew up around all the dogs that her father, a military dog trainer, brought home. They also had many of their own. She worked for years in Las Vegas, and then two and a half years ago, she decided to move to Pahrump, but soon got tired of the drive. So she opened her own grooming shop at 2200 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite G, Pahrump. D-for Dog has no particular specialty animal and works with both large and small dogs. Initially, Perry worked as a lab technician at Sunrise Hospital but found it just wasn't for her. She went to work for Petsmart starting as a bather. It wasn't long before she became a salon manager, trainer, and salon academy trainer. In addition to learning her trade along the way, she attended Petsmart Grooming Academy. Perry said, "It takes time to groom a dog which allow interaction and play between dog and groomer. I treat them like children. A dog is part of the family and should be well treated." Part of the service she offers is free nail trims. She also ensures her shop is clean and as comfortable as possible for the animals to make them happy. Using a hydro surge bathing system that mixes the shampoo at the time of bathing, it also includes aromatherapy if desired. Miller said, "Sometimes the dogs are so relaxed they fall asleep in the bath." Prices range from the free nail trim to $200 depending on the difficulty of grooming or time needed for specific breeds. The two offer toys and treats to animals that make them happy to point that some don't want to leave. As an owner of large dogs, she has no problems working with larger breeds. They don't focus on a particular part of the grooming process but rather work at the overall pet welfare concept. "By developing a bond with the dogs, you can groom them better and easier," added Miller. Miller is in the bather stage of training and like working at the shop. "Charity is a really great boss to work with," she added. Nail trims do not require appointments, but if you would like to make a grooming appointment, call the shop at 775-727-4004. |
