The crucible that has been the Pahrump Valley American Legion team's schedule the past couple weeks continues today, with the Trojans at home against Las Vegas Del Sol.

The Silver Division game starts at 5 p.m. at Honeysuckle Park. A non-division contest starts at 8.

Thursday, Post 22 travels to Eldorado to play Desert Pines at 5 p.m. and Eldorado at 8 in another Silver doubleheader.

The Trojans are then off until July 18, when they are at home against Arbor View in another doubleheader at Honeysuckle Park, starting at 5 p.m.

The regular season ends July 24 for the Trojans, who will take on Durango at 4 p.m. and Bishop Gorman at 7 p.m. at Peccole Park in Las Vegas.

Pahrump Valley, 5-5 in the division, played at Centennial Monday and Vo-Tech Tuesday in Silver games, after going 1-2 in weekend contests. Monday's scores were not reported by press time.

The Trojans lost 5-4 and 4-3 (non-division) to visiting Sierra Vista Friday, and on Saturday at Rivera Park, they shelled Western 15-8 and lost 4-3 to Rancho.

Brooks Klein's two-out seventh-inning home run lifted Sierra Vista past the Trojans in the first game, as the Mountain Lions' Tom Haley pitched a five-hitter to outduel Tyrell Smith.

Pahrump had the tying run on with two outs in the seventh inning after Dax Duesing beat out an infield hit, but Klein got out of that jam without further damage.

The Trojan lefthander allowed seven hits, struck out five and walked two in a complete-game effort. He also slugged a two-run homer in the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4.

Pahrump Valley led 2-0 after one, as Iggy Wagner singled, Cody Nielson doubled and Ethan Wald and Alex Bietar hit back-to-back sacrifice flies.

Sierra Vista scored three runs in the third inning on two hits, an error and a wild pitch. The Lions led 4-2 after scoring a run on a hit batsman and single in the fourth.

In the Silver Division, Faith Lutheran is 11-1, Rancho 12-2, Calvary Chapel 13-3, Sierra Vista 11-4 and Liberty 10-3 after games played through July 7.

The top four teams will compete in the Silver Division playoffs July 31-Aug. 3 at Durango High School in Las Vegas. The Silver Division state champion advances to the Mid-States tournament, to be played Aug. 15-19 at Beulah, S.D.

Also in the division, Foothill and Shadow Ridge are 10-5, Legacy 8-5, Palo Verde 8-6, Del Sol 7-7, Green Valley 7-7, Eldorado 7-8, Chaparral 6-8, Arbor View 5-9, Western 5-9, Centennial 4-7, and Bishop Gorman 4-9.

Cheyenne is at 4-12, Vo-Tech 3-11, Desert Pines 1-11 and Durango 0-11.

Sierra Vista, 15-1, tops the Gold Division, which has no Class 3-A schools. Spring Valley is at 13-6, Coronado 12-5 and Silverado 10-5. The Nevada American Legion state tournament is Aug. 4-11 at UNLV, with the Western regionals Aug. 16-20 at Kearns, Utah. The American Legion World Series is Aug. 24-28 at Bartlesville, Okla.

In the Junior Division, Coronado is 14-0, Sierra Vista 13-5, Foothill 13-7, Rancho 11-5 and Silverado 10-4. Faith Lutheran is 5-7 as the only Class 3-A team in that division.
