David Ahern, 41, was arrested June 27 after allegedly threatening employees at the Family Dollar Store with a knife.

When sheriff's office deputies arrived on the scene, Sgt. Balding approached Ahern, who was walking away from the store.

Balding ordered Ahern to drop the knife, but Ahern initially refused and instead reportedly advanced on Balding.

He finally put the knife away but refused to follow any other commands and was taken into custody only after a reported struggle.

Ahern was arrested and booked on charges of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and trespassing.

He is being held on $11,264 bail.
