BEATTY -- An 18-wheeler and a Hyundai SUV met nearly head on along Highway 95 about three miles north of Beatty Tuesday morning, and amazingly, no serious injuries were reported.

Reports at the scene suggested that the driver of the Hyundai may have been distracted by the sights along the road and drifted across the center line. The impact with the semi spun the car down the road for about a quarter-mile.

Emergency personnel said neither the male driver, the female next to him nor the young girl also aboard sustained major injuries. The driver of the truck, owned by Transportation Services Inc. of Coral Gables, Fla., was not hurt.

Some personnel said they were impressed at how well the Hyundai protected those inside from such an impact.

The truck and trailer also wound up off the pavement, with the trailer and its cargo overturned. The cargo comprised military truck cabs in large wooden crates.
