Hide-a-can fails to hide the dope

John Ludwick, 31, learned the hard way that you can't hide drugs from a K-9 deputy, even when they are concealed in a fake hide-a-can.

Ludwick was pulled over last Tuesday for failing to stop at a stop sign and driving left of center on Highway 95 around mile marker 65 while driving a white Chevrolet Cobalt .

When Sheriff's Dep. Pineau made contact with Ludwick, he reportedly observed "indicators of criminal activity and extreme nervousness on the part of the driver."

Ludwick did not consent to a search of the Chevy, so Dep. Pineau called in his K-9 Dep. Derek, who sniffed the exterior.

The well-trained dog indicated that there were narcotics on the driver's side of the vehicle.

The subsequent probable-cause search revealed a Gunk instant tire repair can with a false compartment.

Inside the can were 17 grams of hydroponic marijuana, two grams of hashish, and two pipes commonly used to smoke marijuana.

Ludwick was arrested and booked on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

His bail was set at $1,551.
