Seven years after his case was the most sensational story in the news, former Nye County Public Administrator Robert "Red" Dyer is back on the streets on parole.

Dyer was sentenced to prison on two counts of perjury, a count of attempted bribery and intimidating a witness, theft and possession of stolen property.

Dyer began serving his sentence at the medium security High Desert State Prison Dec. 17, 2003, according to Quentin Byrne, Nevada Department of Corrections deputy assistant public information officer.

Dyer spent his final four months of incarceration at the 400-bed Casa Grande release center in Las Vegas, which prepares inmates for their return to society.

He was paroled from that facility Oct. 31, 2006, Byrne said.

Authorities have yet to find Dyer's wife, former deputy public administrator Genie Dyer.

The Dyers were initially charged in July 2000 with 30 separate counts, including felony, theft, forgery and misconduct of a public officer.

When the case finally went to trial in December 2001, after a change of venue to Las Vegas, Senior Judge Joseph Pavlikowski declared a mistrial after witness Terry Rusheen spoke from the stand about an alleged plot by Genie Dyer to murder her husband.

Red Dyer was arrested again in February 2002 on perjury and bribery, involving testimony offered by Erna Damon at the preliminary hearing.

A bench warrant was issued for Genie Dyer, who couldn't be located and didn't show up for her arraignment. She has never been found.

Dyer served one year as public administrator before he was recalled in a special election Jan. 18, 2000.

Dyer has only a few months of parole left. It expires April 28.

Further details of Dyer's time behind bars were not available. He is reportedly living in Las Vegas, but that, too, was unconfirmed.
