Over two months after the hoopla of the 2006 election is over, the total costs of the political campaigns are in, with the filing of the third and final campaign expense reports.

That third report includes the final week of the campaign, from Oct. 31 through election day, Nov. 7. State candidates for Assembly District 36 filed their reports with the Nevada Secretary of State's office, county candidates filed them with the county clerk's office.

When the numbers are all tallied, the two main Nevada Assembly District 36 candidates spent a combined $230,547 on the race, which equates to $7.97 for each of the 28,902 registered voters in the district spanning five counties.

Republican Ed Goedhart reported a total of $198,309 in contributions and $134,997 in expenses on the campaign. Democrat Laurayne Murray listed $120,271 in contributions and $95,549 in expenses. David Holmgren of the Independent American Party didn't file a third expense report, but his cumulative financial totals after the second reporting period were zero.

During the final reporting period, Goedhart reported $8,600 in contributions. They included $2,000 from the Assembly Republican Caucus; $1,000 donations each from Nevada Power Company, the Home Building Industry Political Action Committee, James and Pamela Sheppard of Carmel, Calif., and $500 donations apiece from Terrible Herbst Gaming, the Nevada Mining Association, Union Pacific Railroad, Nevada Credit Union League PAC and Sierra Health Services.

Murray reported $5,550 in contributions in the final stretch, most of that was a $4,000 donation by Republic Services, the trash collection company in Las Vegas.

The cost of the hard-fought Nye County sheriff's race amounted to $106,096 between the two candidates. Sheriff Tony DeMeo reported $68,850 in contributions and $63,585 in expenses for the whole campaign.

During the final reporting period, DeMeo collected $3,946 in donations, including $2,000 from Aces High Management, new owners of the Saddle West Hotel and Casino, $1,000 apiece from Bob Swadell, Nevada Bottling LLC and Hafen and Hafen Realty. DeMeo received $500 apiece from Sharon Petty, Strickland Construction, Spalding Homes LLC, Nevada Site Services and Bill Hall and S. Franklin.

Wade A. Lieseke Jr. reported a total of $44,702 in contributions and $42,510 in expenses, along with $15,429 of in-kind contributions. His last reporting period, Lieseke took in $4,715 in contributions and spent $5,950. His contributors on the last leg of the campaign included Red Rock Trading of Henderson, $1,700 plus $2,400 of in-kind donations for a billboard, D and D Tire Co. $2,000, Paul DiMartini of Reno, $500, and Britt and Cheryl Johnson of Fernley $500.

District Five Nye County Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos reported $40,053 in contributions and $49,499 in expenses for the entire campaign. He collected $10,500 in contributions and spent the same amount down the final stretch of the campaign. His major contributors include $3,000 from Mid-Valley Enterprises, $2,000 from George Flint, president of the Nevada Brothel Owners Association, $2,000 from America West Homes, $1,000 from James Carroll and $1,000 from Reade Properties in Sherman Oaks, Calif.

District Five Nye County Commission non-partisan candidate Dan Schinhofen reported $15,250 in contributions and expenses. His final reporting period Schinhofen collected $1,000 each from America West Homes, Saitta-Trudeau and James Sheppard of Carmel, Calif.

District Four Nye County Commissioner Butch Borasky reported $19,376 in contributions and expenses in the whole campaign. He didn't report any contributions in the final reporting period, but listed $5,627 in expenses.

District Four Nye County Commission candidate Charlie Anzalone didn't report any financial contributions or expenses in the final period.

Nye County Commission Chairman Gary Hollis wasn't up for reelection for District Three in 2006, but he filed an annual report, which candidates can file if they have excess funds. Hollis reported $7,350 in contributions, including $2,500 from the RGR Group LLC, which is developing the Pechstein Ranch property, $2,500 from the Executive Development Corporation in Las Vegas, $750 from the Acme Enterprise Political Action Committee which is organized by the Focus Property Group and $500 contributions apiece from the Pahrump Nugget, Realtor Fely Quitevis and Ponderosa Dairy.

Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett was unopposed, he still raised $39,477 during the campaign and spent $24,651, much of it for old campaign debts.
