When the dust settled from New Hope Christian Academy's eighth annual spelling bee, the first through eighth grade students had won more than Wal-Mart gift cards that were awarded.

They also earned a trip to the ACSI District Competition which will be held in Las Vegas on Jan. 29.

First grader Vaniah Vitto spelled "heal" to win in her grade, Noah Nordby took the victory for second grade, Ethan Campbell spelled "weary" to advance from the fourth grade, Karson Vitto won for fifth grade, Megan Quitevis spelled "resolution" to win in the sixth grade class, Jo Longley spelled "ecosystem" to advance from the seventh grade, and Travis Bainbridge in the eighth grade made his way to Vegas by correctly spelling "acrobat."

At the high school level, Hannah Markley correctly spelled "illogical" to win at the ninth and tenth grade level, and Dax Duesing won for the fifth time by spelling "becoming."
