The Pahrump Nugget is always offering something new in the way of music to their audiences. This time, the gentleman who does the sound engineering for the big bands playing the stage bar, is bringing his own band to play.

Spirit Sound Co. will start the show at 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31 for the New Year's Eve celebration.

Bill Westbrook, lead guitar and vocalist for the band, started his career in Carson City and has been a professional musician since he was 16.

His working knowledge of musical engineering and his experiences in living life on the road led him to form a full service entertainment agency. Perfection Entertainment handles a variety of acts on both local and national levels.

Spirit Sound is based in Arizona and most of their own gigs are local to the tri-state area. Their music is an upbeat classic rock from artist like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Grand Funk Railroad, Bob Dylan, The Byrds and the Little River Band.

It's not easy to land a gig on stage at some of the larger venues, but his friendship with country music recording star, Lee Greenwood opened the door that got him started performing in the bigger casinos in Laughlin. "I opened at what is now the River Palms in December of '84 and was supposed to play for two weeks," Westbrook said. "It turned into two and a half years."

Westbrook took a hiatus afterwards but is "back with a vengeance and with an outstanding group of musicians."

Sprit Sound is a salute to what some consider to be the greatest classic rock artists of all time. "We're not a variety Top 40 dance band." said Westbrook. "Instead, we try to take people on a musical journey into the past and they've been blown away. It's music from the 60s and 70s, and it's better than the originals in a lot of ways. The vocal quality of this group is outstanding."

The band is designed for corporate events and parties, so the Nugget is the right place for them.
