Benefit spaghetti dinner

There will be a benefit dinner for Daniel Murphy from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17 at J.G. Johnson.

Daniel was in a quad accident over Thanksgiving weekend and was in a coma and ICU for three weeks. He was then moved into a rehab center.

Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Murphy family to help with medical expenses.

Dinner will include spaghetti, garlic bread and dessert.

A cake auction will take place during dinner.

The cost for the dinner is free but donations will be gratefully accepted.

Pahrump "Bike Nite"

There are now two meetings per week for Pahrump motorcycle enthusiasts.

The regular meetings are 1-4 p.m., on Saturdays at Seemore's Too.

There is a second meeting, 3-6 p.m., Tuesdays at Sonic.

Church Grand opening

Central Valley Baptist Church would like to invite the public to the official grand opening celebration on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 3170 S. Blagg Road.

Devotion begins at 9 a.m., adult Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., morning service at 11 a.m., and children's Sunday school at 11:30 a.m.

A barbecue and music will follow the services.

Sunday evening services wil begin at 6 p.m., Jan. 13 and Wednesday evening Bible study will be at 6:30 p.m.

The last Wednesday of the month will be popcorn and a movie.

Central Valley Baptist Church is an English speaking mission from the First Southern Baptist Church. The location was formerly a Spanish mission, Templo Bautista.

PV Genealogical society

The society will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the Church of Latter Day Saints meeting room at West and Wilson.

Our program will be one of sharing of artifacts we have found in our genealogical research. One member has a diary of an ancestor who fought in the Civil War.

Holiday trash collections

Pahrump Valley Disposal will be picking up refuse one day late after all holidays this season.

For New Year's, collection will be one day late. If your trash day is Tuesday (New Year's), then refuse will be picked up Wednesday, and all collections will run one day late from that point.

Fish Fry

The Daughters of Mary fish fry will be 4-7 p.m., Jan. 4, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 781 Gamebird Road.

There will be fried or baked fish dinners, fish tacos, refreshments and dessert.

Art Show

The public is invited to the "Off the Wall" artist showing.

The works are out of this world and easy to take home.

This is a group show with special guest artist Phillip Torrian from Blue Diamond.

The gallery show runs through Jan. 9.

Building Code training

There will be a training class for anyone who uses International Building Code, 8 a.m. to noon, Jan. 11 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

This will be training to transition from the 1997 IBC to the new 2008 IBC.

Contractors, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Plan Checkers, Building Inspectors and Design Professionals should plan to attend.

Women Motorcyclists

A new group of women motorcyclists is forming. The first meeting will be at 1 p.m., Jan. 19 at the Subway on Highway 372, and they will continue to meet every third Thursday of the month.

The group plans to ride after the meeting weather permitting.

Republican caucus

The Nye County Republican Party Central Committee will host the Republican Caucus and Precinct Meeting between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jan. 19., at the Rosemary Clarke Middle School, 4201 N. Blagg Rd.

All Pahrump Valley registered Republicans only are welcome to attend and participate in the caucus presidential straw poll and the precinct meeting.

Those who wish to just vote in the caucus straw poll are welcome to do so and leave once they cast their votes.

Voting will be open from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.

Those who wish to participate in the precinct meeting are welcome to stay.

Model aviators meeting

The Pahrump Model Aviators Club holds a monthly meeting at 9 a.m., the second Saturday of the month at Desert View Regional Medical Center, lower level across from the cafeteria.

Anyone interested in learning about R/C model airplanes is invited to attend.

They are members of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, a national organization of 2,500 clubs and 17,000 members.

Craft supplies needed

A group of volunteers in Pahrump are making items for our senior shut ins and our Soldiers in Iraq. We need unused and unwanted craft supplies and yarn are needed. Volunteers will make the supplies into useful items.

The group will be making assorted Christmas tree ornaments and stocking to be filled. For our Soldiers, there is a national group that fills and ships the stockings. Black yarn is needed for helmet liners for our troops. Other yarns are needed for scarves and slippers. Socks of any color can be used for our senior shut ins and those in the local nursing home.

Two hundred stockings will be filled for Pahrump residents for Christmas 2008.

Late January there will be meetings to make items. This is a informal group and no membership is required.

Feeding strays?

SNAPS is looking for registered feeders.

They will assist with spay/neutering, vaccinations, trapping and food when available at no charge.

Nye County Democrats

The Nye County Democratic Club meets the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Eagle Scout fundraiser

The Eagle Scout Service Project will hold a fund raiser dinner, 4:30-7:30 p.m., Dec. 28, at the VFW Post 10054, 4651 Homestead Road.

Dinner will be barbecue pork sandwiches, coleslaw, beans and soft drinks or water for $5.

Kiwanis New Year's Eve

The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump will hold the 1st annual New Year's Eve party, 8-1 a.m., Dec. 31 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Dress is casual-dressy (no blue jeans or sweats).

Live music will be provided by Armando Pizzi Band starting at 9 p.m. Soda, beer, water and wine will be offered for sale. There will be a raffle and free door prize drawings.

Library calendar

The Pahrump Community Library is located at 701 East Street, and is hosting the following events in December:

Dec. 31 -- close at 1:30 p.m.

Jan. 1 -- closed for New Year's.

Computer classes for beginning level users are Monday-Wednesday. Sign-up at the library only.

The winter reading program continues Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Dec. 18.

Tuesday classes are Little pups (ages 2-3), 9:15-9:45 a.m.; Red pups (ages 4-5), 10-10:45 a.m.; Big red (ages 5-12 and Kindergarten), 3:30-4:30 p.m.

The Pahrump Community Library offers home bound delivery service for anyone who is unable to visit the library.

ARES Ham Radio class

The Amateur Radio Emergency Services is offering an introduction to Ham Radio via a ham cram class being offered starting at 8 a.m., Jan. 19, 1510 Siri Lane.

The class is for technician license only. A photo ID or two non-photo forms of identification and $14 to take the test which begins at 1 p.m.

Bring a lunch as a lunch break will occur around noon.
