Pahrump found itself in the national spotlight several times during the course of 2007, although some would say it wasn't exactly the kind of publicity the town needed. If you're a believer in the old adage that there's no such thing as bad publicity, however, than 2007 really was a banner year for the town.

The approval of 17 contracts worth $2.3 million to oversee the Yucca Mountain project was so routine, Nye County commissioners approved it last week as part of the ho-hum consent agenda.
