PAVED elects officers

The Pahrump Alliance Valley Economic Development corporation elected its officers at its Tuesday, Dec. 18, meeting.

Paula Glidden was elected president, Dan Schinhofen was elected vice president, Mary Balloqui is the new secretary, and Erin Forte will manage the money as PAVED's new treasurer.

All of the officers will serve for 12-month terms and elections will be held annually, with the exception of the chairman who will hold that position for 12 months.

PAVED is made up of nine volunteer directors and was officially designated by the town board in September as the town's authorized representative for matters concerning economic development.

As such, they represent Pahrump when dealing with county or state governments, outlining budgets for various projects, soliciting water rights and other matters.

PAVED also works with the Economic Development Authority of Esmeralda and Nye counties when applying for grant money as EDEN is acknowledged by the state's economic development body.

The organization was formed by Al Balloqui, the town's volunteer economic development coordinator who is also chairman of the organization.

By virtue of its nonprofit status, PAVED has the ability to solicit money from private and corporate entities for economic development.

The public is invited to attend PAVED's regular meetings. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. at JobConnect.
