ABOVE AND BEYOND

CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT / PVTEvery year the Volunteer Homeland Reserve Unit adopts a family to help with the holidays. This year they went above and beyond and adopted two families who needed a little extra help with the holidays. So on Monday afternoon Anthony Klotz, Nikita Waller, and 8-month-old Tyson Klotz met Pahrump Team Leader Ken Godwin and Squad Leaders Ross Sloan and Frank Maurizio at Wal-Mart to do some holiday shopping. They were joined by (not pictured) Kimberly and Jason Burson, who brought along their children, Drake, 2 weeks old, and Thomas, 4. Jason Burson is battling cancer and the disease has left a financial strain on the family. "It helps us a lot, with (Jason?s) cancer we don?t have a lot of money after going back and forth to Vegas," Kimberly said. "We enjoy doing it, and the smile on their faces makes it all worth while," Godwin said. More information about the VHRU can be found on its website at www.vhru.com. Residents of Pahrump who are interested can also call (775) 751-0255.
