BOULDER CITY -- With three more clashes with the Virgin Valley Bulldogs certain, there was no great excitement generated among Pahrump Valley High School wrestlers because they had won a Southern Nevada Class 3-A League dual here Wednesday.

"They next time we wrestle them, I expect them to be at full strength; they had some wrestlers missing today," Craig Rieger, the Trojans coach, said after his team defeated the Bulldogs 56-21. `

The most important thing was, according to Rieger, "We are 3-0 in the league ... that's a great start." The Trojans defeated Overton Moapa Valley 72-12 and the host Boulder City Eagles 56-22. Pahrump Valley has won the last three regular-season and regional championships, which means league teams will be fighting hard to end those streaks.

Motivating the Trojans, course, is the fact that this is their final season in Class 3-A; in the 2008-2009 school year, Pahrump Valley will be in the Class 4-A Sunset Regional Southwest Division.

Pahrump Valley, which wrestles league matches in the Ninth Grade Academy gym Wednesday (3 p.m.) against Las Vegas Faith Lutheran and Boulder City, goes to St. George, Utah, today to compete in the Desert Storm Invitational at Dixie High School. Some of the top Utah prep wrestlers will be on the brackets for the individual-bracket format tournament which concludes Saturday.
