Nevada Class 3-A girls basketball power Yerington jumped out to a 25-2 first quarter lead over Mineral County Hawthorne on its way to a 78-25 win in Yerington Tuesday.

In a Nevprep.com report, Karrie-Ann Quartz had 24 for the Lions, Kayla Lommori 17 and Rani Williams 15.

Elsewhere this week:

Sun Yoo connected on a 3-point basket with 13 seconds left as Las Vegas Mountain View Christian School fell 49-48 in the opening round to host Fairmont Prep, Calif.

The Saints trailed 11-2 in the first quarter but pulled to within two points at halftime. MVCS actually took a five-point lead late in the fourth but couldn't hold it.

Cortland LeBoeuf led MVCS with 17 points and Justyn Anderson had 14.

Jared Lewis had 40 points and nine steals as West Wendover defeated Independence, 75-51 in a non-conference Class 2-A boys game.

Dayton exceeded its first half score in the third quarter and put on the clamps defensively in the fourth quarter for a 51-46 win at South Tahoe.

Down 24-16 at halftime, the Dust Devils scored 17 in the third quarter to cut the Vikings' lead to 38-33. In the fourth Dayton outscored South Tahoe 18-8.

Hans Meyer led Dayton with 13 points. Ryan Ransdell had 10 and Tanner Wood eight for Dayton.

Yerington got 18 points from Casey Wildermuth and 11 from Marcus Kness in a 57-30 win over Hawthorne.

Incline used a big fourth quarter and a strong night from the free throw line to down Yerington Rite of Passage 83-78 at Incline.

The Highlanders, now 5-0, trailed ROP 62-55 entering the fourth. Micha Cornell had 32 points, including seven 3-pointers and was 3-4 from the line. Eric Baumann was 5-5 from the line as Incline made 12 of 15 attempts while ROP was just 9-18.

Nigel Williams led ROP with 27 points.

Needles got a double-double from two players as the Mustangs downed Boulder City 71-61 in Needles.

Darra Russell had 27 points and 11 rebounds and Doniven Anderson had 19 points and 11 rebounds. Stevie Kidd added 14 points.

Justin Moyle led five Eureka players in double figures as the Vandals downed visiting Round Mountain, 70-44. Edgar Birchim added 15, Johnny Cavener 11 and Jason Nutt 10 for Eureka.

Smith Valley watched a 10-point halftime lead shrink to two in the final 30 seconds, but the Bulldogs held on for a 60-55 win over visiting Dayton Silver Stage.

Smith's Diego Verdugo led all scorers with 25 points and Spencer McLaughlin added nine and Tony Castenada eight for the Bulldogs.

Jared Roberts led the Nighthawks with 19.

Reno Bishop Manogue handled Reno Damonte Ranch 62-39 in a non-league 4-A game. Keith Fuetsch scored 18 for the Miners and Alex Hargrove added eight.

Manogue led by as many as 16 in the first half stretched the lead to 20 entering the fourth quarter.

Reno North Valleys got 11 points from three players in a 63-47 non-league 4-A win over Reno McQueen. Jessy Bajwa, Aaron Short and Mike Steffasson each had 11 for the Panthers.

North Valley's opened up a 33-23 first half lead but McQueen was able to tie the score briefly before the Panthers rebuilt their lead to 20 in the first half.

The Lancers' Connor Brandt lead all scorers with 22 points.

Douglas girls coach Werner Christian liked his team's defense Tuesday night. Problem was, Galena's was even better as the Grizzlies overcame a 16-10 first half deficit with a 14-4 third quarter in their 36-23 win.

"We played really good defense but they played outstanding defense," said Douglas coach Werner Christian. "We have to create offense off our defense but that becomes hard to that when you're not scoring. They really shutdown our outside game."

Langley Iverson had nine and Hayley Jensen eight for Galena, coached by former Tonopah High and Nevada-Reno standout Karen Friel. Jessica Waggoner had eight for Douglas.

Manogue dispatched Damonte Ranch, 62-31, as the Miners got 20 from Taylor Sylvester and 14 from Ashley Armstrong.

Class 3-A Truckee took a 12-8 lead into the half but 4-A Reno North Valleys answered with an 18-point third quarter to win 38-26 in a non-league game.
