FISHING

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Ice conditions are still not safe for traditional ice fishing, but those willing to brave the cold can drill holes adjacent to the dock and fish from there. Try PowerBait or jigging lures.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Thin ice covers the reservoir and remains unsafe for fishing.

LAKE MEAD

Winds put a damper on fishing during the past week, but overall fishing for striped bass continues to be good.

Anglers have seen the action pick up along the beaches and have been reeling in fish from four to eight pounds with the odd fish pushing past 10.

Surprisingly, the stripers are still keying on shad despite the presence of stocked rainbow trout. In the Vegas Bay arm, fish in the one- to three-pound category are still taking cut bait. At B-5 road anglers have been catching stocked rainbows and striped bass.

Baits resembling shad and rainbow trout have been taking stripers. PowerBait, Panther Martins, Mepp's spinners and silver Kastmasters have been taking trout.

LAKE MOHAVE

Last weekend's storms kept many anglers at bay, but others took advantage of the low fishing pressure to catch a few rainbow trout near the outflow stream from the Willow Beach Fish Hatchery.

Those who caught fish were using PowerBait, Rooster Tails, or nightcrawlers. Striped bass fishing has slowed down, though Bomber Long A lures have caught some fish.

At Cottonwood Cove, fishing is fair to good with reports of fish weighing in at 10 pounds plus. Trout plants should trigger the bite from the big boys.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Ice covering the reservoirs on the management area are unsafe.

URBAN PONDS

Small spinners, PowerBait and tiny flies have been taking stocked rainbows at the urban ponds. Fishing has sometimes been sporadic; patience is the key to reeling in some pan-size fish. For hardware try Panther Martins.

Mepp's spinners or Super Dupers. Fly anglers have found success with Copper Johns, Pheasant Tails and bead-head Hares Ears in size 18.
