Couldn't wait

Citizens for Affordable Housing Inc. would like to thank the community of Pahrump for the past support and help in making our self-help home building projects a success. Unfortunately, due to the current housing market and funding constraints, we have had to curtail our operation in Pahrump.

One of the steps we took in closing our office was to choose a raffle winner of the playhouse donated by the Community Bank of Nevada. Even though we weren't scheduled to conduct a drawing until June 2008, we could not, from a practical standpoint, wait that long. The drawing was held Nov. 30. The winner is Dan McClish of Pahrump.

Thank you again, Pahrump, for all of your support.

Article misleading

The article in your Friday edition (Dec. 7) , "County rejects PAVED trade show promo," was misleading.

PAVED did not ask the county to fund this trade show trip. Andy Alberti went to the board as a private citizen and asked for funding his own trip. It is true that Andy is a member of the PAVED board, but the board did not consent to his proposal for a number of reasons.

As event chairman, I will be going to this trade show with a small contingent and we will be following up any leads we acquire. We will also be inviting other economic and town boards to join us if they like.

Just because one member of a board doesn't agree with the majority, doesn't make the board "fragmented."

We are a new entity and we are growing toward a united economic front that will coordinate with other boards and towns in Nye County.

In support of Liakopoulos

I am writing this letter to let the people of Pahrump and Nye County know that the Nye County Republican Central Committee does not support the current recall effort that is being waged against Nye County Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos.

In fact, Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos has the backing of the Nyew County Republican Central Committee.

Peter Liakopoulos was elected by the people of the 5th District and the by-laws of the Nye County Republican Central Committee is to support all elected Republican officials.

We wish Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos the best of success in defeating this unnecessary and disruptive recall and hope that the people of the 5th District join us in our support of commissioner Liakopoulos.

FELY A. QUITEVIS

Chairwoman

Nye County Republican Central Committee

Know your subpoenas

In Response to "Lead by example" which appeared in the PVT, Dec. 5, the following is quoted from the PVT , Nov. 7, 2007.

"The subpoena was denied, however, with Brisebill ruling it was vague in that it was not personally addressed to DeMeo, but to the sheriff's office and said "Attention: Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo. Furthermore, Brisebill pointed out that the subpoena was actually for documents, not for DeMeo to appear personally." Judge Tina Brisebill ruled correctly based on the law."

Mr. Wright there are two types of subpoenas:

1. Subpoena for Records - Also called "Subpoena Duces Tecum."

2. Subpoena to Testify - called "Subpoena Ad Testificandum."

The lawyer for defendant Tuck served this office with a Duces Tecum, which had a few flaws in it.

Any records the defense requires are available by the discovery process in which the prosecuting attorney turns over a copy of their case against the defendant to the defense attorney.

So to answer your question, I follow the law, I cannot help it if the attorney for the defense didn't know what he wanted, or correct legal procedure.

By the way, I was ready to appear in court if called by the judge.

TONY DE MEO, NYE COUNTY SHERIFF
