Fire relief fund A fire relief fund has been set up for Harry J. Beck, who lost his home in a fire. Donations may be made at Bank of America. Toys for Tots charity trail rides Saddlebag Santas Children's Chairities will sponsor guided trail rides to benefit Toys for Tots. The schedule is as follows: Dec. 15 and 16 -- Steiger Ranch The Saturday rides are at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday rides are at 1 p.m. All rides are approximately two hours. The cost is $25 per person. Skate to Give fundraiser The Skate Zone is sponsoring a "Skating Day for Giving Day, 5-8 p.m., Dec. 16. Skating is $6 and includes skate rental and Laser Tag. They are accepting new toys, non-perishable food and cash donations for needy children in Pahrump for Christmas. They will donate $5 of the admission to charities. Winter concert The Pahrump Arts Council will present the annual Winter Concert as a gift to all PAC members and the public at 7 p.m., Dec. 13 in the event center of the Pahrump Nugget. Pictures with Santa will be available. A coloring contest for kids of all ages will result in a $50 prize to the top child in each of four groups. Building Code training There will be a training class for anyone who uses International Building Code, 8 a.m. to noon, Jan. 11 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Republican caucus The Nye County Republican Party Central Committee will host the Republican Caucus and Precinct Meeting between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Jan. 19., at the Rosemary Clarke Middle School, 4201 N. Blagg Rd. All Pahrump Valley registered Republicans only are welcome to attend and participate in the caucus presidential straw poll and the precinct meeting. Those who wish to just vote in the caucus straw poll are welcome to do so and leave once they cast their votes. Voting will be open from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Quilts charity fund drive Quilts 4 Cancer, a 501(c)(3) charity, is looking for people to share their sewing talent and basic quilting to make quilts for adults with cancer. As supply costs skyrocket for shipping and handling, the charity is in great need of batting and backing In Nye County, many residents are being treated for cancer. If you want to donate a quilt, it should be at least 50 x 50 or larger, any pattern and color and should fit most home washers and dryers. Quilt raffle benefit Veterans wives, Joan Crim, Mary Carroll, Barb Johnson and Sue Palumbo purchased supplies and made a quilt to be raffled off as a benefit for the Pahrump VA Clinic. For Christmas and New Year's, collection will be one day late. If your trash day is Tuesday (Christmas or New Year's), then refuse will be picked up Wednesday, and all collections will run one day late from that point. Fiber Arts 2008 Get that quilt or needlework project going now. Plans for the annual Fiber Arts Show are under way, with a spectacular weekend event planned for mid-February 2008. Call 751-6957 for more information. Toys for Tots The Marine Corps League, Pahrump Detachment 1199 partners with the Marine Corps Reserve to support Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots will collect new, unwrapped toys from donation boxes at our local businesses to distribute to children in Nye County. Collection boxes will be located in nearly 40 locations including Ace Hardware, Wal-Mart, Albertson's, Smith's, CVS Pharmacy, Desert Valley Regional Medical Center, Willow Creek Golf Course and Walgreens. Response has been wonderful but really needed are coats for small children and babies. Drop off your new and gently used coats until Dec. 15 at Mankins Allstate Insurance, 1271 S. Hwy. 160 (across from Saddle West) or Dream Homes, 3100 S. Hwy. 160, during business hours. The coats will be donated to No to Abuse for distribution to the children of Pahrump. Christmas food donations Home Health Services of Nevada is accepting food donations for the seniors in need of assistance because of illness, infirmity or inadequate income. Kiwanis New Year's Eve The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump will hold the 1st annual New Year's Eve party, 8-1 a.m., Dec. 31 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Dress is casual-dressy (no blue jeans or sweats). Live music will be provided by Armando Pizzi Band starting at 9 p.m. Soda, beer, water and wine will be offered for sale. There will be a raffle and free door prize drawings. Because Santa and his elves are getting on in years, please be sure to include the name, address and phone number of each child. This allows Santa and the elves to respond to each child.
