Beatty in the Times tourney

The Beatty High School boys and girls basketball teams are playing in the Pahrump Valley Times Trojans Cage Classic, which began Thursday and will conclude Saturday.

Coach Brian Hayes' boys played the Pahrump Valley varsity Thursday; today, the Hornets take on Amargosa Valley Horizon Academy at 12:30 p.m. in the Ninth Grade Academy gym on the PVHS campus.

At 8 tonight, Beatty will complete pool play by facing Nye County and Central Division rival Round Mountain in the Rosemary Clarke Middle School gym.

Coach Aimee Senior's girls will play Bishop, Calif., at 2 p.m. in the Academy gym. At 5, the Lady Hornets will meet Boulder City of the Southern Nevada Class 3-A League.

Beatty opened tournament play Thursday against Round Mountain.

On the Beatty rosters are (girls) Kali Carroll, Karli Rust, Jennifer Porte, Chriscel Rankin, Naomi Cruz, Nichole Stucker, Idhaly Flores, Autum Spicer, Ariel Spicer and Kaci Schroeder and (boys) Giovanni Dare, Mario Roman, Byron Gray, Jacob Sumpter, Kyle Marchand, David Tom, Anthony Regalado, Jacob Carroll, Ivan Maldonado, Ramiro Hernandez and Anthony Turner.

The tournament continues Saturday, with single-elimination bracket games, starting at 8 a.m. All 10 girls and all six boys teams will be seeded for Saturday's first-round games.

Tonopah's girls are in the tournament; the Mucker boys are playing at Lund today and Saturday.

Also in the tournament are girls teams from Las Vegas Trinity Christian, Lincoln County, Las Vegas Bishop Gorman (JVs), Faith Lutheran, Boulder City and Bishop (Calif.).

In the boys tournament, along with Pahrump Valley and Beatty, are the Bishop Gorman JVs and Henderson International School (formerly Warren-Walker).
