When someone has a passion for a form of expression, that passion takes on a life of its own and will manifest in a life no matter the challenge.

Geneil White, a local resident, is a wife, a mother of two small children and has a full time job as well. In spite of all the other priorities demanding her attention, she has made room in her life to study art and this weekend, as a final project for her Arts and Humanities studies at Great Basin College, she has organized a showing of her work and it is open to the public.

The "Inner Space Expedition" exhibit is a "conceptual project" evolving from an outer space mural completed in February of this year.

White said, "The show is an end of ages concept where war, pestilence, fatality and the frailty of the human condition is emphasized."

White creates art to release emotion and develop her own sense of self. At 28, the mental images she has at the beginning of project are transformed into something that exceeds her own expectations. It is a growth process for her.

"A completed piece is my inspiration come to life. It's an autonomous experience to be a creator," she said.

The work she produces is often dark with deep rich colors and the use of extreme light sources to create contrast and emphasis.

The creative process can be an almost overwhelming experience. When creating her art she said, "I'm often inspired by significant events and find myself overcome with emotion." She said at times she feels "melancholic as though lost at sea." and is so enveloped in her work that she is "unaware of her own thoughts and surroundings."

White hopes that each spectator of this show will be moved to reevaluate their own lives and realize that humanity is just a small part of the greater scheme. She wants people to be aware, their actions, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem, have an effect on someone else.

"We were all born into sin and self destruction," she said. "But there is hope and compassion too.

"I'm grateful to be able to learn something new every day and expand my view as though I'm looking through someone else's eyes.

"Through my work, I hope to reach a new level of understanding and share the journey with my viewer."

The show is being held 3-7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 in White's home, 140 E. Betty Avenue.
