Pahrump Valley's wrestling team will have its undefeated record sternly tested when the Trojans compete in the always tough Sierra Vista Duals in Las Vegas Friday and Saturday.

"We will have two duals on Friday, starting at 4 p.m., then the 24-team field is divided into three groups of eight for the Saturday matches," said Craig Rieger, the coach of the Trojans. They are now 8-0 after going 4-0 to win the Boulder City Duals for the first time ever Saturday.

The Trojans defeated Class 4-A Las Vegas Cheyenne 72-10; Bullhead City, Ariz., Mohave 75-12 and 4-A Henderson Foothill 51-24, before stopping another 4-A opponent, Sierra Vista, 42-26 in the championship dual.

Sierra Vista was undefeated in a pool of teams which included Henderson Basic, Las Vegas Rancho and the host Eagles.

"That Sierra Vista tournament always draws some strong teams from California, Utah, and Arizona, as well as Nevada," said Rieger, aware that the action his matmen will face this weekend will require their best efforts of the still-young season.

Four wrestlers -- Elias Armendariz (112 pounds), James Chapman (145), Zach Weldon (171) and Frank Lopez (285) -- are all unbeaten in eight matches this season for the Trojans. All are seniors except Weldon, who is a junior.

Armendriz had six pins, while Chapman had four, Weldon five and Lopez seven. The Trojans, in eight duals, have recorded 62 pins, an average of almost eight per match. There are 14 weight classes in prep wrestling.

At 7-1 are sophomore 103-pounder Elliott Owens, Chris DeMille (130) and Pierce Henkel (215). At 7-2 is Josh Armendariz (119) and at 6-2 are Kyle Abreu (140) and Ande Floyd (160).

Paul Miller, a wrestling newcomer, is 6-3 (at 125), with Gueran Fenicle (135) at 5-3. Matt Marshall (152) is 3-5, with Joe Colucci (189) at 4-4.
