Faith girls down Spring Creek

Las Vegas Faith Lutheran gained some measure of revenge for a loss in the Nevada Class 3-A girls' state basketball tournament last season Saturday.

The Lady Crusaders, out of the Southern Nevada Class 3-A League, defeated defending two-time defending state champion Spring Creek 53-39 in a tournament at Winnemucca, a night after they held off the host Lowry Buckaroos 59-50.

Faith Lutheran had opened the season Nov. 27 with an 85-23 loss to Class 4-A champion Las Vegas Bishop Gorman.

In other games involving Nevada's Class 3-A girls' teams:

Lowry lost 55-45 to 4-A Elko; defeated 4-A Churchill County Fallon 49-43 and lost 56-31 to 4-A Douglas Minden;

Spring Creek defeated Fallon 48-35;

Truckee lost 49-38 to 4-A Reno Wooster;

Boulder City lost 62-42 to 4-A Las Vegas Vo-Tech;

Sparks fell 73-43 to Wooster;

In boys games involving Nevada Class 3-A teams:

Faith Lutheran lost to 4-A power Bishop Gorman, 65-51;

Boulder City downed River Valley, Ariz., 40-27; lost 61-41 to 1-A state title contender Lake Mead Christian Academy; lost 54-52 to Virgin Valley; defeated Las Vegas Calvary Chapel 55-44; lost 58-50 to Las Trinity Christian.

Lowry lost 64-43 to Elko; defeated Portola, Calif., 62-54;

Yerington defeated 2-A Ely White Pine 62-45; lost 51-45 to 1-A Pahranagat Valley Alamo; lost 57-55 to 2-A Pershing County Lovelock.

Overton Moapa Valley lost 56-41 to Hurricane, Utah;

Fernley defeated Rainshadow, Calif., 74-41; lost 53-48 to Wooster; defeated Dayton Silver Stage 70-53.

Dayton stopped Lone Pine, Calif., 60-46; edged Dayton Silver Stage 56-55; defeated Wooser 47-38.

Sparks edged Lassen, Calif., 50-49.

Spring Creek lost 59-52 to West Ridge, Calif;

Mesquite Virgin Valley stopped 1-A Indian Springs 43-17; lost 58-35 to Lake Mead Christian Academy; defeated Boulder City 54-52; lost 64-49 to Lincoln County.
