Best Friends Animal Society, the rescue organization that has been working at the former FLOCK sanctuary heresince last July, received custody of an additional 114 cats and other animals after a Wednesday ruling by Justice of the Peace Tina Brisebill in Pahrump Justice Court.

The animals once belonged to Sheri Allen, who was arrested and booked on 125 charges of animal cruelty earlier this month.

The 100-plus cats, three dagus (small Chilean rats), two desert lizards, two rabbits, two ferrets and two dogs were all found in poor condition at Allen's house.

The animals were transported to the Nye County Animal Shelter, where Best Friends rescue workers have been caring for them daily.

Brisebill turned the animals over to Nye County, and the county in turn passed them along to Best Friends.

The animals are being assessed, and those deemed healthy enough to travel will be transported to the Best Friends sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.

Allen was also in charge of the For Love of Cats and Kittens (FLOCK) sanctuary, where more than 400 cats were found in unsanitary conditions last July.

The majority were sick, starving and often dehydrated.

A Best Friends quick-response team was called in and, with the help of local volunteers, has since cleaned the sanctuary, nursed the cats back to health, and even held an adoption event during which more than 40 of the cats found new homes.

Charges have not been filed against Allen for her involvement with the FLOCK sanctuary.
