The Pahrump Town Board conducted a variety of business at its Aug. 28 meeting, with the usual town business livened up by a short performance by the Nevada Silver Tappers.

A proclamation declaring the Nevada Silver Tappers the ambassadors of Pahrump was unanimously approved by the board after the show.

The Nevada Silver Tappers is self-described as a group of "women who have reached the age of elegance and just want to have fun" and put on performances all through the Southwest.

The tap-dancing ladies donate their time and proceeds to a number of charity organizations, including retirement homes and needy seniors and families.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association, in conjunction with the Firefighters of Southern Nevada, will kick off its 53rd annual Boot Drive Sept. 1 with the town's support now that the board has approved a proclamation declaring Firefighter Appreciation Week from Aug. 24 through Sept. 1.

Money raised during the fundraiser will benefit both adults and children with neuromuscular diseases, and has helped in the past to fund everything from summer camps to medical clinics.

Franco Finn, of Interactive DJ/MC Entertainment Services, will be the master of ceremonies at the Fall Festival this year now that the board approved his contract.

Finn will be paid $4,000 from Fall Festival Funding to announce sponsors, entertain people between acts, and supply gifts for games he will host.

Pahrump residents who are "regulars" at town board meetings may be a little disappointed to learn that two future regularly scheduled meetings have been canceled to accommodate the holiday season.

The second meetings of both November and December were cancelled as they were scheduled during the respective holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas and/or Chanukah.

But the business of governing the town will still move forward, as the board agreed that any business during those months could be handled during the first meeting or a special meeting could be scheduled if absolutely necessary.
