Trojan soccer teams in openers ThursdayPVT
Soccer returns to the fall sports scene at Pahrump Valley High School Thursday, with the Trojan boys and girls hosting Mesquite Virgin Valley in a non-Southern Nevada Class 3-A League twin bill, starting at 2:30 p.m. Greg Leseberg will debut as the Lady Trojans' coach; he succeeds Steve Coleman. Gene Smith is back for his second season as the boys' coach. On the girls' varsity roster are seniors Kolbey Umbertus, Stacie Remsburg, Emily Poertner, Brittany Orr and Devyn Moen and juniors Alexis Abou-Halaka, Corissa Butland, Stephanie Ledford, Crystal Lopez, Lauren Luna, Christine Maples, and Samantha Sposato. Sophomore are Edith Gonzalez, Brianna Milk, Angelica Musumeci, Taylor Raymer, and Brittany Thomason. Freshmen are Shelby Hughes and Haley Williams. On the JVs are seven juniors, five sophomores, and 10 freshmen. There are seven seniors -- Steven Manley III, John McHugh, Kyle Mills, Tyler Raymer, Mikael Redmond, Omar Roman and Iggy Wagner -- on the boys' varsity squad. Juniors Allen Cole Blake, Travis Carson, Sergio Castro, James Gang, Francisco Herrera, Eddie Jim, Brian Lee, Erik Lua-Rodriguez, Michael Nelson, and Justin Romero are on the roster, as are sophomores Alex Fonseca, Jarrett Holley, and Shane Lindemann. The lone freshman is Martin Apolinar. On the JV team are 14 freshmen, 10 sophomores, and three juniors. The Trojan teams do not play their first SNL game until Sept. 13, with the boys at home against Overton Moapa Valley and the girls on the road to take on the Pirates. The Southern regional tournament will be played Nov. 1 and 3 at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex on the Las Vegas Cimarron-Memorial High School campus. The state tournament will be played Nov. 9-10 at Damonte Ranch in Reno. |
